IACS Welcomes New Education Program Director | IACS

IACS is pleased to announce the appointment of Rachel Schutt as our new Education Program Director. In her role, Rachel will assist in launching the new master's of data science program, including developing new courses for the data science curriculum, further develop industry partnerships, and assist in building a vibrant data science academic community across the University.

Schutt previously worked as Chief Data Scientist of News Corp where she oversaw the company-wide data strategy as part of the senior technology leadership team. Rachel was named a World Economic Forum Young Global Leader in 2015, and is on the 2014 Crain's New York Business 40 under 40 list. She has expertise in the areas of corporate data strategy, data science, and data science education and curriculum design. She is the co-author of the book "Doing Data Science" based on a class she created and taught at Columbia University, and is a founding member of the Education Committee for the Institute for Data Sciences and Engineering at Columbia.

Previously, Rachel was a statistician at Google Research and holds patents based on her work in the areas of social networks, large data sets, experimental design and machine learning.
She earned her PhD in Statistics from Columbia University, a Masters degree in mathematics from NYU, and a Masters degree in Engineering-Economic Systems and Operations Research from Stanford University. Her undergraduate degree is in Honors Mathematics from the University of Michigan.
